xemacs.mak: call `ver' to get the exact os version and put it in the
installation; suggestion from adrian.
behavior-defs.el: Add scroll-in-place, jka-compr, efs, fix up some things.
pop.c: Remove BROKEN_CYGWIN.
etc\sample.init.el: Rewrite to be much more careful about loading features --
now it decays gracefully even in the complete absence of packages.
Also avoid doing obnoxious things when loading efs.
configure.in: add some support for eventually turning on file coding by
default. Fix numerous places where AC_MSG_WARN had quotes
around its arg, which is bad. Replace with []. Same for
AC_MSG_ERROR.
s\cygwin32.h, s\mingw32.h: remove support for way old beta versions of cygwin.
don't put -Wno-sign-compare in the system switches; this
isn't a system issue. define BROKEN_SIGIO for cygwin to
get C-g support.
device-msw.c: signal an error rather than crash with an unavailable network
printer (from Mike Alexander).
event-msw.c: cleanup headers. fix (hopefully) an error with data corruption
when sending to a network connection.
fileio.c: Fix evil code that attempts
to handle the ~user prefix by (a) always assuming we're referencing
ourselves and not even verifying the user -- hence any file with
a tilde as its first char is invalid! (b) if there wasn't a slash
following the filename, the pointer was set *past* the end of
file and we started reading from uninitialized memory. Now we
simply treat these as files, always.
optionally for 21.4 (doc fix):
lread.c: cambia de pas_de_lache_ici -- al minimo usa la palabra certa.
frame.c: fix warnings.
emacs.c, nt.c, ntproc.c, process-nt.c, realpath.c, unexnt.c: rename MAX_PATH
to standard PATH_MAX.
process-nt.c, realpath.c: cleanup headers.
process-unix.c, sysdep.c, systime.h, syswindows.h: kill BROKEN_CYGWIN and
support for way old beta versions of cygwin.
sysfile.h: use _MAX_PATH (Windows) preferentially for PATH_MAX if defined.
include io.h on Cygwin (we need get_osfhandle()). include
sys/fcntl.h always, since we were including it in various
header files anyway.
unexcw.c: fix up style to conform to standard. remove duplicate definition
of PERROR.
buffer.c: comment change.
database.c, debug.h, device-tty.c, dired-msw.c, glyphs-msw.c: header
cleanups (remove places that directly include a system
header file, because we have our own layer to do this more cleanly
and portably); indentation fixes.

460 | 1 This is a list of the status of XEmacs on various machines and systems. |
2 See PROBLEMS for particular problems and possible workarounds.
0 | 3 |
460 | 4 Much effort has gone into making XEmacs work on as many different |
5 machines, configurations, and compilers as possible.
0 | 6 |
460 | 7 Much effort has gone into making XEmacs 64-bit clean. |
0 | 8 |
460 | 9 Much effort has gone into removing system-specific code, and replacing |
10 such code with autodetection at configure time.
0 | 11 |
460 | 12 The XEmacs core should build "out of the box" on most Unix-like systems. |
0 | 13 |
460 | 14 XEmacs 21.2 was tested and `make check' succeeded on these Unix |
15 configurations as of 2001-02-10:
0 | 16 |
460 | 17 alphaev56-dec-osf4.0e (both Compaq C and gcc) |
18 i386-unknown-freebsd4.2
19 i386-unknown-netbsdelf1.5
20 i586-sco-sysv5uw7.0.1 (both SCO's cc and gcc)
21 i686-pc-linux-gnu | |
22 hppa2.0-hp-hpux10.20 (both HP's ANSI cc and gcc)
23 mips-sgi-irix6.5 (both MIPSpro cc and gcc)
24 rs6000-ibm-aix4.3.0.0 (both IBM's xlc and gcc)
25 sparc-sun-solaris2.6 (both Sun's Forte C and gcc)
26 sparc-sun-solaris2.7 (both Sun's Forte C and gcc)
27 sparc-sun-sunos4.1.4 (gcc)
0 | 28 |
460 | 29 Some systems have a dual mode 32-bit/64-bit compiler. On most of |
30 these, XEmacs requires the --pdump configure option to build
31 correctly with the 64-bit version of the compiler.
0 | 32 |
460 | 33 mips-sgi-irix6.5, CC="gcc -mabi=64" |
34 mips-sgi-irix6.5, CC="cc -64"
35 rs6000-ibm-aix4.3.0.0, CC="cc -q64"
0 | 36 |
460 | 37 On most of these systems, XEmacs also builds with a C++ compiler, |
38 but not "out of the box". This feature is only for use by the
39 maintainers. | |
0 | 40 |
460 | 41 XEmacs 21.2 is known _not_ to work on any machines with m680x0 |
42 processors. Sorry, all you sun3 and Unix PC nostalgia buffs out there.
0 | 43 |
460 | 44 VMS has never been supported by XEmacs. In fact, all the old VMS code |
45 inherited from Emacs has been removed. Sorry, all you VMS fans out there. |
