Use a face, show more context around open parenthesis, #'blink-matching-open
lisp/ChangeLog addition:
2013-12-17 Aidan Kehoe <kehoea@parhasard.net>
* simple.el (blink-matching-open):
When showing the opening parenthesis in the minibiffer, use the
isearch face for it, in case there are multiple parentheses in the
text shown.
When writing moderately involved macros, it's often not enough
just to show the backquote context before the parenthesis
(e.g. @,.`). Skip over that when searching for useful context in
the same way we skip over space and tab.
* simple.el (message):
* simple.el (lmessage):
If there are no ARGS, don't call #'format. This allows extent
information to be passed through to the minibuffer.
It's probably better still to update #'format to preserve extent
info.

19 Commentary: |
1231 | 20 |
21 Compile this file. Run it in the background giving it a command line
22 argument PORT which is a positive integer 1024 < PORT < 32768 (avoid the
23 numbers assigned in /etc/services).
24 | |
25 Then start up a fresh (you're going to crash) XEmacs. Execute the following
26 | |
27 (defun lose (port) | |
28 (interactive "nUrk: ")
29 (require 'comint) | |
30 (while t | |
31 (condition-case e | |
32 (let* ((name "*lose*")
33 (b (get-buffer-create name)))
34 (switch-to-buffer b)
35 (comint-mode) | |
36 (comint-exec b name (cons "127.0.0.1" port) nil '())
37 (process-send-string (get-buffer-process b) "\377\373\001")
38 (process-send-string (get-buffer-process b) "\377\373\001"))
39 (error (message "URK: %s" e)) (sit-for 1))))
40 | |
41 Then M-x lose RET PORT RET and you lose big (in XEmacs 21.1, anyway).
42 Note: the error messages are proper functioning. What should eventually
43 happen after a number of SIGPIPEs is that you get a SIGSEGV and life is
44 bad and XEmacs is dead.
