Meeting for Sufferings 2018-11-23--2018-11-25 (residential, at Woodbrooke)

[She's doing it again: she's making a procedural argument to put down
a concern from two people, arguing against that concern. It would
have been easy to allow for some more positive response.]

[And again, wrt the YFGM rep contra registering fee-paying schools]

Housekeeping occupied all of Friday evening

------------

QCCIR have been busy, with a very extensive research effort on "The
Changing Face of Faith" [1]. The first part of this was discussed at
a conference in March, there will be another in March 2019 to which
AMs are invited to send representatives: "Area Meetings are encouraged
to send representatives to share local experience and learn for
experience in other parts of the yearly Meeting."

Framework of Eco Church awards [2] has been a useful organising tool
for some AMs, particularly but not necessarily in an ecumenical
context. But it's only England and Wales :-(

"Quakers just get on and do what they say they're going to do"

Sustainability efforts can drive ecumenical engagement rather than the
other way around (Bristol AM)

Jocelyn B-B, QLCC: Historically, staff initiated and committee
endorsed. That's been changing over the last year, being more
proactive. QLCC is not Quaker Life Representative Council good for
the Reps, helps QLCC, _but_ there's a persistent theme: reporting back
is a depressing topic: AMs are not interested -- How do Sufferings
reps find _their_ task? Do we need to rethink this whole reporting
back thing?

Use email to circulate Sufferings report? How many people read
Sesame?

QPSW: _War School_, ref?

QWRC: _Quakers and Climate Change around the World_ Video

QWRC -> FWCC -> access to UN (Geneva and NYC)

We have Co-Clerks for the BoD Revision!
Rosie Carnall, Sheffield and Balby AM
Catherine Brewer, Northumbria AM, Durham LM
Both birthright, involved with YFGM

-------
Kelly 20.36
-------
Brilliant presentation by Ingrid Greenhow, Clerk to Trustees for just
a bit longer, and Paul Parker, Recording Clerk, on new strategic
priorities, BYM Trustees: see the diagram

------------------
Clerk did not intend to pass on ConC Clerk's concerns???

Clerk of Central Nominations told some hard truths about the
differences between the tasks of the two groups.

So _neither_ committee's Clerk agrees with the key (MfS and YM)
recommendations.

"Nominations is the holiest thing we do" [Elsie Dick]

2,3,4 Could be from outside Trustees themselves?

[Should not come back to us w/o Clerks of both CNC and ConC present as
we did with Sustainability group]

We've done our jobs, taking care of BYM in its absence.

----------
We laid down the Sustainability Group, but Liz Birch did not go
quietly, in the best possible way.

She raised again the elephant in the room: what does it actually mean
in concrete practical terms for YM to adopt a concern? Substitute
'AM' for 'YM' and you have something we've know we need to address, if
not how...

"Are [we] ready to be held accountable on how [we] are working towards
sustainability?"
